Old Calendar Christmas

On Saturday, January 7, 2012, the Great Feast of the Nativity of our Lord, "Christmas," was served according to the Old (i.e., Julian) Calendar.

About fifty Orthodox Christians, mostly from various Slavic backgrounds, came together today in a parish "first" of sorts, and were led in prayer and worship by Frs. John Bartholomew, chief celebrant, and Jonathan Ivanoff, parish Rector. The choir sang beautifully under the direction of Matushka Doreen Bartholomew.

Plans are now underway for a celebration of "old" Russian "New Year" on Friday evening, January 13, and a second Great Blessing of the Water on Old Calendar Theophany on January 19, as well as Slavonic Vespers in February and March.
